Ian Taras, M.D. is a board certified Ob/Gyn doing gynecology only with an emphasis in menopause management looking for out of the box options for my patients in Woodland Hills, CA “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -Eleanor Roosevelt5/11/2014 ![]() When my Dad passed away, exactly 1 month ago today, I asked that patients share with me their stories about "Dr. Ed." On this Mother's Day, with her permission, I wanted to share one such story that Lauren Ryan (Supported Birth Class) sent to me and have uploaded it here. I plan on sharing the note with my Mom today. I know it will touch her heart as it touched mine! It made me think of that quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!” So in essence, my Dad had a greater impact on more than his 3 children & 8 grandchildren. His legacy will remain for generations to come! Happy Mother's Day to all, but especially to those who have fond memories of their delivery, made that much more special by the pioneering spirit of Edward Taras, M.D.!!! ![]() Dr. Edward Taras of Woodland Hills, CA passed away peacefully at home with all his family at his bedside at the age of 80 on Friday, April 13, 2014. Born 12/29/33 in Montreal, Canada, Ed moved to Woodland Hills in 1967 where he started a successful ObGyn practice. In the next 35 years, Ed delivered thousands of babies. A pioneer of natural childbirth, Ed was one of the first doctors to allow expectant fathers into the delivery room. In his free time, Ed enjoyed good food, dancing and travel. His adventures took him to six continents where he formed lasting friendships and cherished memories. Above all else, Ed enjoyed being with his family and friends on whom he made a deep and meaningful impact. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, his sister, three children and their spouses and eight grandchildren. He was truly one-of-a-kind! The funeral will be at Eden Memorial Park, Mission Hill, CA, on Sunday, 4/13/14 @ 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to www.tinyurl.com/EdTaras in Ed’s name. "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." --Ralph Waldo Emerson We have some exciting philanthropy news to share and hope y'all will partner up with us to make this the biggest participation and fundraising year yet! We've decided to team up with "Walk with Love" (WWL) on SUNDAY May 18, 2014 at the Pacific Palisades Rec Ctr. @ 8:30 AM. This event is 8 days after the Revlon Run Walk (RRW) event that we traditionally had participated in. An event where last year our 'Lil 'ol team raised over $81,000 and had over 200 people and were the NUMBER ONE team fundraiser besting the likes of Disney, UCLA, Toyota, Macy's & KABC-7!!! In the last decade Team Taras has raised over 1/2 MILLION dollars! WHY: Every day 108 women die of breast cancer. My grandma died of ovarian cancer, my Mom got breast cancer @ 47 and is still cancer free and my sister has the gene and had the 'Angelina Jolie' prophylactic mastectomy. We started walking before we knew we had the gene but now I too have tested BRCA gene positive! Now I walk selfishly for my daughter! We need to shift breast cancer research into high gear and focus on finding the cause(s) and ways to prevent it. You have the power to fuel breakthrough research and have an immediate impact on ending breast cancer by raising much needed funds for the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. 3 ways to be involved (even if you can't be here):
While we are focusing on a new charity (for reasons that include smaller, Sunday & site change), we still want you to form your own teams and donate to Revlon. Because its time to move on, we're 'retiring' at the top and hoping that someone else will form a RRW team that will one day take them to number one the way we started out over a dozen years ago with a team of a dozen! After all, in the end, all the funds go to the same 'pot.' Once again, we will NOT be participating this year in Revlon but invite you to do so. We hope you will join us as we move forward towards a future without breast cancer! DONATE WITH CONFIDENCE The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation is committed to investing donations to research and programs, such as the Army of Women initiative and the Health of Women Study. 85¢ of every dollar your donate goes to research! They have the seal of approval from the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, Charity Navigator and Guidestar.
